We kindly invite you to participate in the screening of Lithuanian documentary – animation “Grandpa and Grandma” (Senelis ir bobutė), which will be held in Alpha hall on 6th of May, from 11:30 to 13:00 (“Radisson Blu Hotel Lithuania” conference area). The film will be shown with English subtitles.
The discussion after screening will give you the possibility to talk about the war and post-soviet painful cruelty that was done to Lithuanian society, which is shown in the film through the eyes of a small girl, finding ways to resilience and peaceful wisdom. That gives possibilities for the participants from various countries of the World to get closer acquaintance with Lithuanian history and find the platform to think and discuss about the spirituality, values, pathways to inner strenghts, importance of family generational relations – universal values of mankind, still very actual in our days.
After the screening you will have an opportunity to discuss with film director Giedrė Beinoriūtė (Lithuania), psychotherapist prof. Eugenijus Laurinaitis (Lithuania) and child and adolescent psychiatist prof. Sigita Lesinskienė (Lithuania).
The documentary – animation is based on a life story of director’s grandparents who were exiled to Siberia by Soviets in 1948. The severe period of Lithuanian history is being told in a personal way, in genre of a fairytale. The story teller is a little girl, who sees the events in her own child way. The visual basis of the film consists of extant family photographs together with the national archive material and animation inserts.
Film Director Giedre Beinoriūtė was born in 1976 and graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Film and TV department with an MA in Audiovisual Arts in 2002. She has directed and written eight ﬁction and documentary short and medium-length ﬁlms which have been well recognized, both nationally and internationally.
