Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Past Secretary General of WPA (Turkey)

Levent Küey, M.D., is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry, with clinical work, research, and teaching experiences for 35 years in different psychiatric institutional settings; currently practicing, teaching and supervising in Psychology Department of Istanbul Bilgi University and in private practice. Being a member of the Board of the European Psychiatric Association (EPA) (2015-2019), a member of the EPA Task Force on Refugees and Migrants (2015-…), immediate past Secretary General of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) (2008-2014), Co-chair of the WPA Standing Committee on Planning (2008-2014), WPA Zonal Representative for Southern Europe (2002-2008); Honorary Member and Honorary Fellow of WPA, editor of WPA News (2008-2014) and of WPA Website (2008-2014), WPA Representative (2002-2008) in European Task Force of WPA-WHO-UEMS-EPA, he is well experienced in international collaboration in the fields of mental health and psychiatry.

His fields of scientific research and publication include social and cultural psychiatry, psychiatric epidemiology, depressive and anxiety disorders, psychopathology, diagnosis and classification. He has received research award of the Turkish Journal of Psychiatry (1997). He is a member of the WPA Scientific Sections on Classification and Diagnosis, Transcultural Psychiatry and Public Policy and Psychiatry; EPA Scientific Sections on Transcultural Psychiatry and Psychopathology. He is the author and translator of numerous books and scientific journal articles and book chapters (e.g., lately, Küey L. Trauma and Migration: The Role of Stigma, in Trauma and Migration (ed: Schouler-Ocak Meryam) Springer, 2015, pp: 57-69). He has been serving as editor, peer reviewer and member of the editorial board (e.g., World Psychiatry, 2008-2014) of the leading national and international journals of psychiatry, and as Chair, Secretary General, Organizing and Scientific Committee Chair/Member in many national and international scientific meetings where he also gave numerous lectures.
